Welcome To Winter... Tips, Tricks and Treats by Holly Ralston Oyler
TIP ~ If your are prone to cold hands, use a hand cream or lotion with ginger, which stimulates circulation and creates warmth.
TRICK ~ If you are fair your skin may turns red from the cold. When you come indoors, apply Chamomile Eye Makeup Remover with Aloe to cotton squares and apply them to your face for a few minutes. It will prevent the blood vessels from dilating due to the temperature change.
TIP ~ Have the beginnings of a cold sore? Apply Pepto-Bismol® to the area when you feel the tingle. Repeat several times if possible.
TREAT ~ If dry, prickly skin is driving you nuts, take a cool shower and instead of using soap, use hair conditioner. Rinse well and gently towel dry.
TRICK ~ No cuticle cream in your desk drawer or purse? Use your lip balm or Vitamin E stick.
TIP ~ Chapped, dry and broken skin on the hands lead to infections. Apply cream and slip hands into plastic bags. Wrap hands in a heating pad for 20-minutes or so.
TREAT ~ cracked lip corners (usually caused by yeast infections) with Lamisil or Lotrimin, antifungal creams by dabbing onto the cracks with a cotton swab. . Be sure to keep creams out of mouth. Also take Acidophilus until they heal.
TIP ~ Jell-O® Footsies! Feet have over 250,000 sweat glands and we all know that cold weather brings on unhappy footsies. At night soak tired, sweaty feet in a pan of Jell-O powder and warm water. You choose the flavor.
TRICK ~ For extremely dry itchy skin areas, make a poultice of oatmeal in a washcloth and run it under hot water. Place poultice on the area and squeeze gently.
TIP ~ For dry lips, look for lip products with shea butter and/or beeswax instead of camphor.
TREAT ~ dry areas like elbows, knees, feet and hands with a not so traditional moisturizer – Kraft Miracle Whip® . Apply to area and leave on top of skin for five to ten minutes. Then massage into the skin, rise with tepid water and moisturize with your regular moisturizer.
