Faux Tanning Panache'

Even on a good day, applying a self tanning product can be a challenge and sometimes a disaster in the making. Knowing how your self tanner works and how your skin reacts to it, is the first step in an even and natural looking application.   Using the proper products and taking the time to apply the self tanner properly is the second step.

suracepeelcrmSurface Peel Creme is the perfect companion to use with your faux-tanning products. Use it before applying the sunless tanning cremes to eliminate the dry skin that causes blotching and streaking of your sunless tanning products.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
      •       Only the top layer of your skin reacts with the self tanner.
      •       Exfoliating your skin prior to applying a self tanner is a must-do!
      •       Be sure to wait at least 30-minutes to one hour before going to bed.
    • Self tanner will stain your bedding if it  is not completely cured.
    • You will also get sheet-creases if you go to bed before it cures.
      •       Be sure to "gently" wash off residue that stays on the surface of the skin in the morning.
    • Surface cells of the turn over each night while you sleep, so in the process, the self tanner stays on top of the skin.
    • Use a wash cloth with a touch of a gentle cleanser. Rinse well and pat dry.
    • This is a must-do before wearing a white blouse or shirt. Remember to "pat" dry and not rub or buff.
      •       Apply a generous amount of moisturizer to your skin every morning and every night.
      •       After three or four days when your skin starts getting that unreal light pre-orange look, it is time to start over.
  •      If you don't do this, all self tanners will turn to that classic self-tanner-orange on day 5 and your skin will start looking blotchy.
  •      DID YOU KNOW...
    •  If you have a hyper-pigmentation (dark spots) on your skin, self tanner will make them even darker.
    • Use a cotton swab to apply the self tanner around the spots.
    •  Do not apply directly to the spots.
      •       Self tanner needs oxygen to start the color development process.
  • Sitting outside for 15-minutes (providing it is not humid) after application or using the hair dryer as suggested will insure a nice, even and natural color development.
  • French manicures and/or light colored nails will also self tan, so be sure to wash your nails using a nail brush. You can also buy nail guards at Sun Tan City.

START YOUR APPLICATION PROCESS
  • Exfoliate your skin using Surface Peel Creme or another exfolliator. This step is a must. If you skip over it, you will never be happy with your self tanner results.
  • Let your skin dry while you are planning your application method. Where are your going to start and where are you going to stop?
  • Humidity and self tanners do not get along at all, so do not apply in a humid bathroom.   If your home or hotel is hot and humid, wait until the air conditioning cools things down a bit.   If you apply self tanner and then go out into the direct sun you need to remember two things;
      1.       If it is humid and you start perspiring, the self tanner will streak.
      2.       There is no SPF protection in a self tanner
  • Put on a bathing suit (use an old one to prevent staining) or use a half slip or bath wrap.
  • You should apply your self tanning creme like you would apply a really luxurious creme (you know, the $300.00 variety). Work it in a circular motion and work it into your skin.   Savor the experience and go slowly.
  • Apply more moisturizer (not the $300.00 variety) to your knees, feet and ankles.
  • Start your application with one foot (choose left or right) and work upward on one side of your body to your neck area (do not do arms or face at this time), go across your chest area and work down the other side, ending at your other foot. STOP
  • Now it is time to wash your hands really well and relax a minute or two.
  • Now it is arms and face time.   Starting at the SHOULDER area of one arm, work your way down to the WRIST and stop. do the same on the other shoulder and arm.
  • Apply to the back of your neck area and work lightly over the ears then stop.
  • Starting at your collar-bone, work upward onto neck and onto your face.   Be sure to go across the forehead.   AVOID getting the self tanner in your eyes or into your hair line.   Use a Cotton Swab to get into the nose creases and under the eye area.
  • Blend self tanner into the chest area where you ended the first application. STOP AGAIN.
  • Wash your hands and be sure to go around cuticles with the nail brush.   Dry hands well.
  • Apply lots of moisturizer to your hands. Using an OLD rolled-up wash cloth, apply a small amount of self tanner to the back of your hands and work down and on to fingers - very lightly.   Bend knuckles tight and gently blot the cloth over the knuckle area (this will prevent the white-lines that sometimes appear).
Okay - you have completed your application and are ready to set and activate it.
  • Using the hair dryer on high, go over your entire application areas with the dryer to set and start the self tanning action into motion.   Be sure to keep dryer far enough from skin to prevent burning. Wait the 30 minutes before dressing or going to bed.
  • Now, sit back and wait for your self tan to gradually bloom.
